Show them this reddit thread. When they see a bunch of people saying you have good grades (because you DO), they might chillax

I’m a parent. If you were my kid, I’d be proud of you. You know what, I am proud of you. Keep up the great work!

17

u/thebananaperson1 15 Dec 06 '21

Thanks 🙏

5

u/foxytailtag Dec 07 '21

Those are exceptionally good grades!! You do very well I see. I would be very proud of you. I do not understand why some parents demand straight A's from their kids. The parents have already gotten their grades long ago. Your grades are great, you have a great future. Keep up the great work. Your grades will affect YOUR future life, not your parents. You're the one in school, not them.

You are doing great! You do you, and just do the best you can. Don't submit to anybody elses expectations. 😇

172

u/EmbarrassedFly1203 Dec 06 '21

48% where? in all seriousness the only thing that matters in the end is the overall grade. As long as it stays there and you put in the work you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Yes, sounds like you’re in IB based on the pre-calc. Hard as F

131

u/thebananaperson1 15 Dec 06 '21

Yes I am and it makes me want to unalive myself 😩

I obviously won’t do that but I hate IB

44

u/Cold-Imagination5037 Dec 06 '21

I’ve got news for you. None of this stuff matters after college. In fact, some schools don’t even give you college credits for it. Enjoy high school without destroying yourself. I was in IB at Modesto high school. I didn’t pass with my IB diploma. Didn’t care. Why? I got into college and it didn’t matter to me.

5

u/Steadmils Dec 06 '21

The hell’s IB? I took AP classes and got lots of college credit from the exams (2 classes worth of calc, 2 of chem, and one of bio), so those actually helped me out a lot after high school. Sounds like IB is bullshit lol

8

u/Cold-Imagination5037 Dec 06 '21

International Baccalaureate. It's an international based education approach to learning and teaching.

6

u/Waggli Dec 06 '21 edited Dec 06 '21

Imagine AP but a bit harder, internationally recognized but recognized as just the equivalent of AP if you're taking a college in the US. "Diploma" means you took 6 classes of it and a bunch of hours of volunteering among other things, "Certificate" just means you took a couple classes but not all 6.

edit: fun fact, Kim Jong Un has an IB diploma

As a 24 year old college student? Relax kid. You can pass with D’s. And if your parents are gonna cry about it? Quit caring. You’re still passing one way or another. So boo fuckin hoo. Oh “you need straight A’s, or you’ll never get into a good university? Guess what, my high school gpa was 1.9, a whole years worth of F’s on the record, and I still got into a university, and I’m about to graduate with my bachelors. Tell your parents to calm their tits, and stop worrying about their pissing and moaning. You’ll be fine.

4

u/Cunnla Dec 07 '21

Teacher here - yes, those grades are great. Be proud of yourself. Your workload is high, and you have every reason to be proud. Further, college admissions like seeing some Bs in there with the As, as they show that an applicant likely understands and can handle frustration and won't crash and burn when things get difficult. Also, you know what they call a PhD candidate who gets Bs? Doctor. Give yourself a little grace, you're doing great. Congrats.
