7.2k

Yo tell your parents to call the local news. They'll air this same day and set a fire about it.

2.6k

u/thewintermood Oct 21 '21

Seriously though. Him sending this video is a virtual guarantee of better food going forward

606

u/senselesssht Oct 21 '21 edited Oct 21 '21

Isn’t the food currently free?

Edit: Meant that sending this video to local news to guarantee better food didn’t seem likely, since the food is free…Of course anything would be better than this, unless you’re a lizard or bird.

Edit: And have learned that not all schools are utilizing the USDA free lunch program, so some families are still having to pay. Am not certain as to why that is, possibly political influence depending on the state, or other reasons. Maybe the school is pocketing the money and utilizing the program? Not sure.

Edit: Lastly, I totally agree this is unacceptable any way it plays out. Whether it was negligence at the source, the school, or as a prank. There just isn’t enough info to immediately place blame on someone without it being looked into first. I apologize if my comment was misconstrued.

572

u/KhanSTiPate Oct 21 '21

Free food should still be edible. Edit: especially when our tax dollars pay for schools to provide lunch.

253

u/Saturnian_Hunter Oct 21 '21

Not just edible, but for a school lunch it should be high quality and nutritional.

It's worth paying for because it will ultimately improve someone's education, and we're talking about the future of a country really, having well educated citizens VS ignorant ones. Giving kids good food means they're going to be sharper and more alert at school, they'll do better, they'll get better jobs and ultimately the economy will get better because your people will be able to compete with economies from other countries.

That's why I think it's stupid that people whine about 'i don't wanna pay for other people', because things like this pay for themselves in the long run. Same with healthcare, and a bunch of other stuff. Besides that it's just sad that children still go hungry in this country, especially when it's something that's very easy to solve.

41

u/LoftfoL Oct 21 '21

It’s extra nutritional now

Just in California, sorry.

Edit: Glad it’s free (for kids) in all states. Couldnt remember if it was statewide or nationwide.

48

u/Shortbus-Thug Oct 21 '21

If you consider a cheese sandwich a meal, idk about the other states but in Illinois all they would give the kids who couldn’t pay for lunch was 2 slices of white bread and a single slice of American cheese and some milk

11

u/ActionScripter9109 Oct 21 '21 edited Oct 21 '21

Correct. The comment was edited to include the link because it started getting a lot of traction. The bots do this so they don't risk getting caught every time, just when it's worth it. The part where it says "edit nsfw maybe" is to make the edit look less suspicious.

The subreddit linked is a setup controlled by the scammers. If you do visit it, don't click any links you find in comments there. They lead to the scammers' websites. There is no porn game, it's stolen rule 34 animations used as bait. The reviews are all from bots too.

You can report these accounts to the site admins here. It's pretty easy to find which ones by viewing the subreddit.

To read about this scam and many others, check the pinned guide on my profile. The shit they're trying to get away with on reddit these days is wild.

Tell the lunch lady (or dude). They probably have no idea and it means they need to throw out product. Going to them directly lets them know they need to go through their inventory to check for other problems and possibly change suppliers. The sooner they know, the sooner it can get fixed.

Not saying don't tell your parents or the media, but if you do that there's a good chance the school will just fire people and call the problem fixed. What's worse is the people they fire may have nothing to actually do with the problem.

278

u/tittylover007 Oct 21 '21

Also it’s not like the lunch crew at the school is packaging and sealing the individual cups. This is on the supplier way more than its on the school

Maggots don't magically grow in food unless a fly can land inside it and lay eggs. There is clearly a fly problem at the manufacturer.

18

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '21

Or, a fly problem wherever this half-eaten dessert has been discarded for the last few days. The fact it's half eaten makes me suspicious.

Because corn is cheaper than apples, so to make the product cheaper, they stretched it out with cellulose and high fructose corn syrup.

Except that tastes awful, so they had to add flavoring to cover it up.

Except now it doesn't taste like applesauce, so they have to add coloring to explain the taste.

Read the ingredients these things are ground up garbage you're better off eating ice cream. Or better yet, just an actual apple. Eat that.

When I was a teenager, I was snacking on some harvest cheddar sun chips from a bag on the floor while playing videos games. At some point, I thought I saw something moving on my hand. I look down, and there’s small orangish ants on my hand. Look in the bag, hundreds of them. They had probably gotten in there from the floor or window nearby. Went to the bathroom, ants in my mouth. Took a while to feel clean again, even after multiple teeth brushing sessions, mouthwashes, and a shower.

23

u/Tinbitzz Oct 21 '21

When I was a kid, I often eat rice crispy cereal every morning. It’s a routine, brush my teeth, go the kitchen, cereal and milk in the bowl. I’d do without opening my eyes. One day i sat down to have my cereal, took a bite and it tasted kinda off...like gritty. I opened my eyes, looked down and there had to be hundreds of these tiny bugs floating in my bowl. Spat it out, screamed and cried. Felt like it was a nightmare. Yes i did all that brushing and mouth washing too.

GO TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY, (IF YOU HAVE NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS) MAGGOTS CAN OCCASIONALLY SURVIVE DIGESTION AND INFEST THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM.

(Edited because a right away visit might not be needed.)

244

u/I_upvote_zeroes Oct 21 '21 Take My Energy

Hi. Here from front page. Sorry old. But a physician. Maggots will not survive stomach acid. The larger risk here is the chance of bacterial poisoning from the food itself or if the maggot somehow came in contact with feces. Food with maggots will have a very high probability of giving some degree of food poisoning. If you start to become febrile, vomiting, diarrhea, dizzy, etc. Go to a&e/ER

I’m repeatedly reading that maggots have a chance of surviving digestion and causing myiasis.

“Accidental myiasis: results from ingestion of eggs or existing maggots into the gastrointestinal tract. Local irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea are the usual symptoms. The low oxygen levels in the gut usually will kill the maggots, but some survive intact because their outer layers are resistant to digestive enzymes.” source

“Intestinal myiasis is a type of myiasis that can occur when a person ingests larvae that survive inside the gastrointestinal tract. Some people with intestinal myiasis do not experience any symptoms and may only realize that they have an infestation after noticing larvae in their stools.” source

Either way op needs medical advice.

46

u/I_upvote_zeroes Oct 21 '21 edited Oct 21 '21

yes, there are documented cases of ingested maggot myiasis. It's exceedingly uncommon and I've never seen it in 20 years of being an ER physician. In the US and UK nearly all variations of fly larvae will not survive in the low oxygen environs of the gut, nor the low pH of the stomachs acid (usually around 2). I did operate under the assumption OP is North America or UK. However, if they are in underdeveloped regions of India, Africa or SE Asia, then they should be wary and mindful of how they feel and err on the side of caution and seek an opinion.

Edit: I also never saw myiasis when I worked with MSF in Africa. But, appreciate the journal articles and the call out. Good to be reminded that uncommon doesn't mean unpossible

16

u/TerracottaBunny Oct 21 '21

Glad to learn more on the topic. I honestly just knew it was a possibility that the larvae could infest a persons digestive tract and freaked out for op. I edited my original comment.

17

u/romcombo Oct 21 '21

Yes, intestinal myiasis can occur. However, even the sources you linked do not support an immediate medical visit or intervention without symptoms of intentional myiasis.

Because the risk of it occurring is minimal and there isn’t really an agreed upon treatment (with some cases just being allowed to run the course), the most a medical professional is going to do is say “if you develop these symptoms, come back.”

Further — there’s a reason for the way physicians handle things like this as well as other conditions. Many times the risks of possible treatments outweigh the benefit to the patient. Sometimes the use of proposed treatments for a case would limit treatment access for more critical patients. In other cases, the over prescribing of drugs can lead to them becoming less effective in the future (looking at you antibiotics ).

Too all the people still somehow confused,

The applesauce is blue because it is blue raspberry flavored, some brand named ZeeZee’s.

And incase you haven’t seen my other comment, I’ll make an update on any legal action being taken or what happens in regards with the health department.

And to the person who was eating dinner, sorry!

67

u/Stark_Always Oct 21 '21

I feel bad for you mate. More than half the comments are about why is it blue when you can find the answer in top 3 comments smh

67

u/Competitive-Ear-6443 Oct 21 '21

The comments are 50% why is it blue and 40% protein with the last 10% being to sue

burn baby, burn

and how many students got this and managed to ate the whole thing

15

u/DaRealNinFlower 14 Oct 21 '21

Blue raspberry applesause still exists? My district stopped serving it when I was in elementary. But back on topic, that's the fattest lawsuit I've ever seen. You need to take legal action before this gets worse, assuming it hasn't happened before. Also I really hope you got a chance to regurgitate that before you actually digested it, I've never eaten bugs but I'm aware enough to know it isn't good for you. Anyways I hope you live safely.

I mean my school gave us pink chicken, stale cereal that milk couldn't soften, two week expired milk, apple juice with chunks and slimy bits, moldy bread, moldy cream cheese, weird tasting hard chicken patties, grey thin meat patties, etc.

11

u/Hm4585 14 Oct 21 '21

Tbh pink Chichen is not harmful to you as it only turns pink due to the Chichen dieing in a certain way. I think it’s heart attack of heat stroke/Dehydration

Disgusting, get to parents and they’ll report to public health department! Those are fly larvae, maggots, of some type.

Even the apple sauce is blue with maggots. This is so disgusting and Apple Sauce shouldn't be freaking blue. I think your school just needs to give the students a better lunch menu.
