I was considering posting a picture of a broken glass side panel.

5

u/Catch_022 Oct 21 '21

Doesn't the audio connector cable being different frustrate you?

I wrapped my audio cable in black electrical tape to spare my sanity.

3

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

A little bit. You can't tell with the tinted side panel on though at least. I intended to sleeve all the front panel, and fan cables, and I did a couple of the easier front panel ones, and one of the fans, but by the end of the project I kind of lost my steam and was generally happy with how it looked. If anything I'd probably just remove the front panel cable, I never use it and my headphones don't even plug into it without an adapter.

I thought my cable management was on point but this is at a different level. Congrats!

6

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

Oh my, no. I'm working on it, but I'm pretty sure half the reason I get super detail oriented about minor things like this is because it gives me some semblance of control I don't have in other areas of my life. Again, I'm working on it, not looking for advice or anything.

4

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

Totally, but the lack of any sata power was very intentional.

2

u/TanavastVI Oct 21 '21

It must be a godsend to not have any of those. I've got 5 sata devices to power and those 2 more cables from the PSU add so much clutter and problems...

Where did you get that cable clamps though?

2

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

I milled them out of aluminum, because I needed a weird 28 pin ATX clamp, and wanted to include the 8-pin in the bottom one.

1

u/TanavastVI Oct 21 '21

Thanks for the info. Should have known they are custom made with the bottom one but I cannot compete with a mill lol.

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

Well I say 'milled', but it's just on a small drill press. I wouldn't try and do it with a hand drill though, the holes are too likely to drift into each other unless the spacing is far apart, and the angles won't be perfect. The ability to drill perfectly straight holes with large amounts of force comes in handy more frequently than you might think.

1

u/SuperBlitz22 Oct 21 '21

Need the specs,pc looks sick tho ofc

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 22 '21

It's a 9900k @ 4.8Ghz, and a 2080 super. It's about 2-3 years old at this point, but obviously nothing to complain about.

1

u/SuperBlitz22 Oct 22 '21

Nice! How much ram and storage do you have btw?

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 22 '21

4x8GB trident z ram, I think it's 3200Mhz. And 3TB storage, it's 2 970 EVO PLUS SSDs, a 1TB and a 2TB.

1

u/SuperBlitz22 Oct 22 '21

Noice, and what resolution do you play on?Which monitor?

Sorry for the continuous questions lol

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 22 '21

No worries. I have one of the earlier LG ultrawides, almost 5 years old now I think, carried on from my previous PC. So 34" @ 3440x1440. It's good for basically everything, only 60fps though. and since it's a 20xx not a 30xx the GPU can only handle a little bit of raytracing, I can't really crank those settings up.

1

u/SuperBlitz22 Oct 22 '21

Ah makes sense

I see so many people upgrading every generation on reddit because their 2080ti couldn't power their 4k screens well, so was just curious

glad to see people exist who use their gear for a good while before upgrading, which i what I plan to do too

1

u/spoody69420 Oct 21 '21

Evil pcmr be like

1

u/rikkrik Oct 21 '21

This is beautiful

1

u/Belzebutt Oct 21 '21

Damn, that's clean. Question for you, since you're clearly a fellow OCD sufferer. All my components are black and my preferred lighting scheme is blue. I have a Sound Blaster Z and it's red, it clashes with the rest of the parts. I thought about covering it with tape. What would you do?

Since I wanted all blue lighting inside the case I covered up the red LEDs in the Sound Blaster Z with tape, it was a pain. Otherwise I have to go for all red lighting.

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

I definitely sympathize. It looks like the sound blaster Z at least has a black PCB, so it's just the red cover? The cover even covers up the LEDs if you cover them with tape. I'm not sure how to disassemble it but there's enough pictures of the PCB with the cover off that I'm sure it's not too hard (looks like just 4 screws on the back). Take the cover off, mask the clear window, and spray paint the outside of the red cover with black spray paint. Aluminum sucks at holding on to paint, so maybe scuff up the surface with sand paper first, and then use a self-etching primer before doing black (and even then, handle with care after it's dry), and many super thin coats a few minutes apart is better than 1-2 thick coats. Also there's plasti-dip which might be better in this case, and probably easier to remove if you wanted to.
You could do the inside of the cover too, but if it comes into contact with any components either directly or with a heatpad maybe mask those areas off, the paint will kill some of the thermal conductivity (but to be honest it's probably not a big deal for a passively cooled sound card either way).

If you wanted an overkill solution to the LEDs too, you could remove them and replace them with appropriate resistors for no lights at all. Looks like they're through-hole so it wouldn't be too hard, but I'd probably only do that if you had some electronics experience already. I've never done it, but it's a pretty common mod (in general, not necessarily for that card) and you can find info about people doing it for various things and find out how to determine what kind of resistor could replace. To be honest though since the red cover covers the LEDs anyway, I'd just spray paint the cover and tape over the LEDs.

I have the Meshify C and wish I could manage my cables like that.

1

u/Traditional_Exit_445 Oct 21 '21

Where can I find cables like that.

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

These ones are custom so the lengths are almost as close to having no slack as possible. But you can get similar cables from CableMod. The ones from a pre-packaged individually sleeved cable sets like NZXT, and others won't be as nice, the gauge of the wires is thin and the sleeving isn't very high quality on them. so they tend to look a bit like spaghetti strands, and extensions hypothetically reduce the effectiveness of the sense wires on high quality PSUs. It's a trade-off though. They're so rigid they're difficult to route, and if you buy them pre-made they won't be cut to the length needed to make the bends (think race track, where the outside wall is a longer distance than the inside wall) and they might be a pain to train nicely. But making them yourself to length is also a huge hassle frankly.

1

u/duumed 9700K @ 5,0 GHz | 2080 Oct 22 '21

As someone with cablemod cables, they sure are nice. But they are still just "extensions", so they don't connect directly to the PSU, and you need to hide all the original cables somewhere.

No I don't.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '21

Lookin' good from the back anyway. Unfortunately my PSU cables aren't long enough to go around the top and back of my case so they're just crammed in crevices. I know I can buy longer ones but that seems rather silly to me.

Not that it matters, since my case doesn't have a windowed side panel anyway

1

u/QuantumSupremacy0101 Oct 21 '21

Shortly after the picture.

OP: "shit, I forgot this last cable that has to go in"

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

This was already the second attempt, so that was shortly before the picture.

1

u/Expections_Not_Meet Oct 21 '21

Now I like this , what are you using to manage the cables , that it runs through

1

u/esPhys PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

They're just blocks of aluminum with holes drilled through them. Get real cable clamps if they're an option instead These are basically built into the case at this point. Clamps > combs though if you ask me.
