Oh you PC only guys are in for a real treat.

Also 4k, DLSS and Ultrawide support is just gonna improve an already incredible game.

Based, this is how people should be reacting. More people get to experience a game they haven't played before. That's only a good thing :-)

The game gate-keeping on console exclusives from players is a crazy common thing, blows my mind.

u/baconmaster687 i5-9600k | 2080Ti | 32GB 3600MHz Oct 20 '21

They mad whenever the few reasons to have a console start breaking down

171

u/limevar Oct 20 '21

That could be a part of it, but I think a lot of times, they think PC players feel entitled to being able to play every game.

Which honestly to me isn't a bad idea at all; PC is in general, by its nature, an "open" platform. We "should" be able to play the games we want on the platform of our choice.

78

u/baconmaster687 i5-9600k | 2080Ti | 32GB 3600MHz Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

Idk, I don’t feel entitled to be able to play every game on a PC, but I do feel entitled to feel better about being able to

Edit: I realize this sentence sounds really contradictory, I don’t feel entitled like “PC gamers should be able to play every game” but I do feel entitled to hold my head high at the fact that we pretty much can

52

u/Dr_Masquerade Oct 20 '21

I'd like the ability to purchase any and all games on my PC. If I can't I just emulate them.

39

u/Darth_Thor Laptop - i7 8550U - GTX1050 - 16GB RAM Oct 20 '21

That could be part of the reason why Sony wants to release their games on PC. Somebody will eventually figure out a way to pirate them, so might as well just let people buy the game instead.

35

u/rhguinn Oct 20 '21

I think Sony is releasing games on PC to make more money. Releasing the game on pc years after it's release on PS4 will hardly affect the sales of it on console. People who were going to buy it on PS4/PS5 probably already have. Releasing a game on pc years after it's console release will still incentive people to buy their console.

Well, every game was "made" on a computer, and consoles are really just computers with limitations, there's no (good) reason that PC players shouldn't be able to play every game that console players can...

Especially now that consoles use the x86 architecture. They literally are just general purpose computers now, with some specialised solutions.

7

u/JackSpyder PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

There are many good valid reasons to owna console. Especially the new ones which are amazing for the price.

Exclusiveness shouldn't ever be one, not in the age where consoles are just compact PCs and cross play is prevalent.

Studios know this, its just less sales made and the cost of supporting 3 platforms is now much less than in the ps3/360 era when each platform was very unique.

A lot of Sony fanboyism is based around having better quality of exclusives than the rest. It's their first attack on other platforms for not having any exclusives (or worthy exclusives). Losing them to other platforms become a salty/sore subject for them as they somehow sees that it lessens the appeal and legitimacy of the system which is quite silly.

Some go as far as thinking that the fact that these exclusives are ported to other systems is a form of betrayal from Sony (because they were led to believe it won't be available on other systems). Some even claim false advertisement.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When Horizon Zero Dawn was announced for PC, many Playstation players got angry at Sony for "betraying them", and some even destroyed their PS4s...

I mean, do you really own a console? You can't repair it, you can't decide what to run on it, Sony can lock you out if they decide to, and if you buy games for it digitally you can't sell or lend those either. It's getting real fuzzy.

7

u/Daneth 3700X | Aorus Xtreme 3090 | LG CX48 oled Oct 21 '21

I try not to "own" them, I consider what I do with Sony consoles to be more of a long term rental. I sold my PS3, PS4, PS4 pro and now I own a PS5, at least until the PS5 pro comes out. I haven't turned it on in 6 months, but whenever an exclusive comes out that I want to play I'll be somewhat ready (I bet I have 20gb of OS updates waiting for me).

Current plans. When has Microsoft last done an exclusive that wasn't also available on PC?

4

u/JACrazy Oct 20 '21

Crossfire X is the only Series console exclusive they have coming, but its not done by Micorosft. If I had to guess, the most recent Microsoft Xbox game to not eventually come to PC is probably Halo 5 (excluding Halo 5 Forge on PC), since afaik most other Xbox One era exclusives eventually showed up on PC.

I can't believe people are actually angry. I don't think a PC player has ever been mad a game that was exclusive to PC was later ported to a console.

There are a lot of differences between a PC and a console besides the available games.

Even if every PS game was available on PC, I doubt a lot of people would get a PC instead, I guess some would but also a lot of people with zero intention to buy a console would buy their game as well

Sony Fanboys. I have never met a group more sad than them. And ive met them in real life too. Their entire life and world view revolves around Sony and its PR/Corporate statements. IE, they were huge Japanophiles when Sony was based there but now that Sony is California based, they consider Japan to be a degenerate country and culture.

Right now they are seething that people arent forced to buy a Sony console to play the exclusives anymore.

5

I played it on PS4 (100%) and can't wait to experience it again on PC. Fantastic game from beginning to end. They nailed the combat, the exploration, the story, sound design, acting, animations, cinematic sequences, music and the visuals, all to a high degree. And without any camera cuts.

u/chubbysumo Ryzen 5900X, 64gb of ram, EVGA RTX 2080 super FTW3 hybrid Oct 21 '21

sony figured out that exclusives are only worth so much, but when you open the sales tap up to other customers, they tend to buy. I suspect "exclusives" are just about dead, as its better to sell to whoever is gonna buy it, your system or not.

8

u/jp3372 3600 | RTX 3070 | 16 GB Oct 20 '21

I will probably buy this masterpiece again only because when I played it on my PS4 I was like this game need a more powerfull machine to fully enjoy the visual. My 3070 can't wait.

Spider-Man, along with any future Marvel games, are the only ones that I doubt will ever be ported and will remain exclusive.

For someone that doesn’t really play videogames, the quality of GoW, Horizon, or Uncharted may be lost on them, but when they see that PlayStation is the one with Spider-Man (and soon, Wolverine, amidst many more in an ever-growing Marvel PlayStation universe) they will certainly be buying that console. The exclusive Marvel games are some of the few, truly system-selling games on any platform.

u/chocotripchip Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

Nah, Sony has been saying they want to support PC before the PS5 was even announced.

Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West will come out on PC too after their PS exclusivity window ends.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding last year, Days Gone earlier this year, Uncharted Collection and God of War early next year. Sony is going all in with PC.

9

u/Mr_SlimShady Oct 20 '21

Yes, but they still want you to buy a PS5. I’m not the one making decisions at Sony, but I can say with 100% certainty that new games will not come to PC until the PS5 is either near the end of its life, or the PS6 is already out.

Don’t expect the sequel to be ported within the near future.

I'm surprised they haven't announced or rumored their own PC platform store.

Sony seems like a company that want to keep their circle close rather let Valve/Steam in on it.

The probably realise, unlike every publisher suckling from epics teat, that publishing on Steam will net them a far greater share of the profits than if they were to distribute via their own platform.

Its probably more profitable for them to get PC players to buy their games on the PC they already have, than try to convince them to get a PS5 through marketing and being hopeful.

Need twisted metal ports

Twisted Metal 2 was the only game my dad ever played with me.

He's certainly not a bad parent, but video games just weren't his thing.

Having said that, those shared screen multiplayer sessions are some of the best memories I have with him.

To be fair they don’t really make the money on consoles. They’ll probably try pushing their subscription more in the future if they keep adding titles on pc.

11

u/Cee503 Oct 20 '21

Also giving pc players a taste of the amazingness that is the GOW franchise so they go out and get ps5 and GOW ragnarok. Ragnarok may be goat status if it’s any better than the first gow on ps4

u/Kaiju_DNA PC Master Race Oct 20 '21

Who would buy a console just for 1 game tho

10

u/antlordi Oct 20 '21

That’s a silly question, there is always one game that makes us buy, we will find other games after, but it will always be one game that tips the scales

32

u/Carneus Ascending Peasant Oct 20 '21

I bought a PS4 for Bloodborne. To date, that is the only game it has ever ran. Not sure if I'd recommend doing that, but I definitely didnt regret it.

I bought my Switch just for Breath of the Wild.

I played a lot of other games on it too, but if I'm being honest I could've played only BotW and my purchase still would've been worth it (I have nearly 400 hours in it)

Breaking news: Sony figures out that they can make a hell of a lot of money releasing old exclusives to PC.

26

u/aggressive-cat 9900k | 32GB | 3090 Suprim X Oct 21 '21

Their Ex ceo said as much, the plan is wait for exclusives to die down, then give them a shine job and ship them on PC. If that convinces people to buy PS5s, dope. If not, they got $50 out of a guy who was never going to buy a playstation. Makes perfect sense, everyone wins (except sony fan boys and impatient pc gamers, lol).

Now I get to buy it for the PC!

u/TheGudu Oct 20 '21

HZD came out in an okay state, but was made perfect in about two months after release with some pathces. Days Gone got it correct right out of the bag.

I think PS have this figured out by now, surely GOW will be in a good state.

Both games are excellent but I like everything about God of War more -- the gameplay, story, characters, dialogue, world, general game design, etc. Though The Last of Us did feel more immersive despite being a more linear game, and made me really feel like I was in a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world.

It has DualSense support on PC… cannot freaking wait to play this with a RTX 3080 combined with haptics and adaptive triggers. The way it was meant to be played.

2

u/PDXubaru PC Master Race Oct 21 '21

I greatly dislike the shoulder buttons on the DualSense. They are functionally better, but not at durable as the Xbox controller. I hate the Xbox controller.

2

u/nCRedditor-21 Laptop Oct 21 '21

I have the Elite Series 2 and the DualSense and my current gripe with the former is that the right thumbstick gets stuck a lot - will have to look into it. Playing games with a DualSense via Steam hasn’t been fun without official support (so you’d have to use DS4Windows/Dualsense X) so I’m really looking forward to GoW utilising all the capabilities of the DualSense. Hell, even Days Gone didn’t have much support for it.

2

u/PDXubaru PC Master Race Oct 21 '21 edited Oct 21 '21

I took the elite 2 back after 1 minute. The build quality and functionality of the controller is virtually identical to the standard. That is unless you can actually reprogram those stupid grip button now., which would make them not stupid to me.

I loved the DS until the shoulder button took a dump after 3 months.

The only problem I had in games without official support was when I wanted to use gyro. It was stupidly inaccurate and ratchety. But games that supported it, it worked flawlessly.

I guess I blame sekiro for the death of the shoulder buttons, but I’ve def hit my other controller’s shoulder buttons WAY more times over the years. Hell, I still have Xbox 360 controllers that are perfectly functional and have better shoulder buttons than the new Xbox controllers.

I still love my Steam Controller the most.
