Is anyone else tired of being called a crazy liberal? I don't understand what is so 'crazy' about wanting truth and equality.
Marc Thielman has been running the Alsea school district- notably, sending out a note to parents giving them a guide on how to commit Disability Fraud so they don't have to vaccinate their children- and now is trying to run for Governor. Here's a compilation I made of his recent anti-vax posts, racist supporters, and other ideologically far-right posts.
Political Do NOT vote for Betsy Johnson for governor. She is NOT a true progressive. She voted against the environmental cap-and-trade bill and against the universal voter registration bill. There's likely more as well.facebook.com
It seems that a large percentage of people are barely making it on the wages offered in Oregon. Do you think UBI would be helpful? What would be alternatives?
We added 30,511 new freeway lane-miles of road in the largest 100 urbanized areas between 1993 and 2017, an increase of 42 percent. That rate of freeway expansion significantly outstripped the 32 percent growth in population in those regions over the same time period. Yet this strategy has utterly failed to “solve” the problem at hand—delay is up in those urbanized areas by a staggering 144 percent.
Easy to understand video on induced demand:
We investigate the effect of lane kilometers of roads on vehicle-kilometers traveled (VKT) in US cities. VKT increases proportionately to roadway lane kilometers for interstate highways and probably slightly less rapidly for other types of roads. The sources for this extra VKT are increases in driving by current residents, increases in commercial traffic, and migration. Increasing lane kilometers for one type of road diverts little traffic from other types of road. We find no evidence that the provision of public transportation affects VKT. We conclude that increased provision of roads or public transit is unlikely to relieve congestion. (JEL R41, R48)
Why is a state agency so intent on wasting money and the environment on expanding freeways without any data showing doing so serves any sort of public benefit?
