And the "shit.. people walking by.. pretend I'm fixing the trunk for a bit" Next step is to close the trunk to hide his shame and crawl into the front.

13

u/thatguyned Dec 07 '21

No closing the trunk was a brilliant realisation. He would have climbed to the front and realised he STILL can't open the door to get out and close the hatch and had to climb all the way back.

I can't imagine getting out again at home was easy unless his wife is home to cut the lines.

6

u/Small_Bag_6494 Dec 07 '21

Climbing out of the window from the inside is an option too.

6

u/thatguyned Dec 07 '21

Yeah I guess once he's sitting down he can move the seat back to make climbing out the window easier.

There'd be absolutely nothing graceful about it though

898

u/portablebiscuit Dec 07 '21

I’ve done the exact thing as this guy. 1st Christmas with my very pregnant wife. We went and picked out our tree, I carried it to our car while she got in and warmed up. Then I proceeded to tie my fucking doors shut. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard at myself in my entire life.

205

u/Bvshpo Dec 07 '21

Not quite the same, but I can’t count the number of times I locked myself out of my beater pickup truck and had to climb in through the sliding window in the back (which didn’t lock)

31

u/thegovunah Dec 07 '21

I climbed in through the trunk of my G5 a couple times. It was on Main Street in a small city in the middle of downtown. Constant traffic most hours of the day. I doubt it was ever the weirdest thing anyone had seen that day though.

39

u/The_souLance Dec 07 '21

You can fit in there?!

101

u/Bvshpo Dec 07 '21

16 yo me definitely could, and I’m sure everyone got used to seeing a blonde teen girl climbing in through the back window of her beater truck after a few dozen times.

33

u/The_souLance Dec 07 '21

Lol, that makes sense then. I used to have a back window that wouldn't stay up if you pushed down on it, saved me calling a locksmith a few times.

40

u/Bvshpo Dec 07 '21

I refuse to admit the amount of times I’ve broken into my own house and vehicle to avoid calling a locksmith. I’ve gotten really good at it though. You’d think it’d be easier to just remember keys…

57

u/The_souLance Dec 07 '21

One day I locked myself out twice in one day... That was a sad day...

u/TDragon_21 Dec 07 '21 Silver

4

u/desertSkateRatt Dec 07 '21

I had a 76 mercury monarch that I managed to lock the keys in... the trunk. I had to take apart the back seat to get into it which thank God, was designed with access back there for some reason.

I had a car in college that would freeze -open-. The handle would pop open, but the mechanism wouldn't release the latch. It was a two door hatch, so once I finally learned not to try below 30°f, I just started climbing in thru the back. I usually had purple hair around then, too, so I'm sure watching me be disrespected by a VW Scirocco was memorable.

I feel your pain.~~~~

I managed it when I locked my keys in. Popped in open with a pocket knife. Probably looked like I was stealing my own pickup to anyone not laughing their asses off.

33

u/pearlsbeforedogs Dec 07 '21

I once had a lady lock her dog in the car at the grooming salon I worked at. We tried the driver door, the diver side rear door, even the back lift gate with no luck. Tried to get the dog to step on the door lock, no luck. Called a locksmith for her and waited outside to keep an eye on the dog. Locksmith shows up and checks the passenger side door and it was unlocked.

12

u/azuth89 Dec 07 '21

Oof. I physically winced reading that.

2

u/dandylionhearts Dec 07 '21

I locked my keys in my Ford Focus at a gas station once. The trunk latch was crap on it, and often didn’t close and latch when I shut it, and sure enough when I checked it, it was open. I looked around, and then opened the trunk, folded the back seats forward and humbly crawled into the trunk and up into the car to unlock it.

Some trucks have a single sliding pane, while others have a double sliding pane that opens wider.

5

u/McRedditerFace Dec 07 '21

I had to teach my 8yo son how to break into our house cause I locked us both out accidentally. Garage was open, grabbed the ladder, popped the lock off the window (it needed repair anyway) and had him crawl in and unlock the front door. :P

And that's not the first time I've broken into my own home. :P

3

u/metaStatic Dec 07 '21

I can open any hyundai X3 with a plastic packing strap faster than using the key

2

u/Scythul Dec 07 '21

Mine “locked” but you could Jimmy it with a screwdriver. Good times…

2

u/maggie081670 Dec 07 '21

Done something like that in my tiny little Yaris. The doors were locked but my keys were on the front seat. Luckily I thought "where are my keys?" a split second before shutting the hatch. The back was full of groceries and the back seats were upright so my fat old ass had to climb in with the groceries, undo the back seats and crawl over them to grab the keys.

Imagine if he gets pulled over and asked to step out of his car

50

u/Talking_Head Dec 07 '21 edited Dec 07 '21

As a fellow, overweight, middle-aged, white-guy that wears a ball cap; I can tell you that we don’t get pulled over. We are practically invisible in the daylight.

I walked out of a Sheetz (past the security guard) the other day with $25 worth of merchandise and no one blinked. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized that I hadn’t completed my transaction on the self-checkout app. Turns out the app won’t let you pay outside of a geofence around the store. So I had to return to the parking lot, rescan everything and then pay. I did this while sitting next to a cop car.

It was at that moment that I fully realized the meaning of white privilege.

12

u/dont_shoot_jr Dec 07 '21

I accidentally learned/discovered racial privilege when I was bar hopping with a black coworker and I mentioned going to hotel lobbies and restaurants to use the bathroom, whatever is nearby. Coworker blurted out “I didn’t even know hotel lobbies have bathrooms!”

11

u/Talking_Head Dec 07 '21

With middle-age looks, pale skin and a bit of confidence you can eat the free breakfast at nearly all hotels. Even the ones that might ask to see your room key will waive you through if you have a paper cup in one hand and a USA Today in the other.

Exactly. If they are videoing, they likely spotted the mistake early on and could have said something. It would have cost them nothing to just be nice and say "You're tying your doors closed that way." Instead, they chose to make a video mocking someone else to impress strangers on the internet.

Fr. Kinda sucks that 30 years ago being in public meant if you did something embarrassing, just the people around you would see it, but now it means if you do something embarrassing, some annoying sow will make a permanent record of it and share it with as many people as possible across the globe

It's disgusting how many people do this. Same with redditors who steal their friend's FB post and blast it onto the front page.

We’ve all done something similar don’t lie

As a software engineer, I do it all the time and so do my colleagues.

There's no roof racks? Rip roof.

8

u/bradland Dec 07 '21

The roof racks on BMWs are these weird, continuous aluminum extrusions with no holes in them. They sell a “rack system” for some exorbitant sum of money that latches on to the rails that run lengthwise down the roof. Like most things “luxury European”, it’s a racket.

u/womb0t Dec 07 '21

Ah OK kinda makes sense, don't think I've seen it, will keep an eye out.

I would have gone through the window like a NASCAR driver

2

u/Concrete_Ent Dec 07 '21

Hey I work there!

2

u/ramathorn152 Dec 07 '21

Reach through the window, roll it down, and dukes of hazard that shit through the window.

2

u/FatherGnarles Dec 07 '21

I would've done the same thing if I made a brain fart like that lol

I've watched this sitting out near the loading ramp of an American Furniture Warehouse. Guy was trying to put a mattress on the roof of an early 00s Toyota Corolla. Used the same technique of running the rope through the open windows. The girl that was with him was berating him the whole time and he just ignored her.

The frosting on top was when he went to open the door.

The whole time we were commenting on how this wasn't going to work. Needless to say it was the same result as this video. The girl took off though in a fit of rage. This was early 00s so no Lyft or the like but she popped out a flip phone and started calling for a ride.

The guy Dukes of Hazzard'd it into the driver seat and took off after her. I'm not sure if that relationship survived the 'shopping for furniture and opting to transport the mattress yourself to save a buck' stage or not.

Don't come home without a tree.

2

u/RyuuKamii Dec 07 '21

watched some dudes at a Walmart do this with a 65in TV on top of a mini cooper yesterday....

2

u/Redwood21 Dec 07 '21

I was thinking just roll down the window and Dukes of Hazzard in!

2

u/BAKjustAthought Dec 07 '21

Why can’t he just roll down the driver side window and hop in that way?

Opted for the trunk-o-shame instead of just cutting the one string and re-tying it.

Respect.

I worked at an electronics store and a massive asshole bought a big TV. We would load into a proper thing like car or back of a truck, but he wanted us to strap it to his roof and we said no for liability.

Four of us stood up front and watched him tie it through his windows. I noticed it right away and if he was not an asshole I would have gone and told him.

Watching him tug on the door was hilarious. Don’t be a dick.

2

u/Big-D-TX Dec 07 '21

My dad did the same thing, still funny

2

u/vipernick913 Dec 07 '21

Hahaha. My man owned that mistake!!

2

u/AZFUNGUY85 Dec 07 '21

Huuuuuularious

2

u/Roman_____Holiday Dec 07 '21

Reach in and roll the driver side window down then just jump in like one of the Duke boys.

2

u/firefighterr Dec 07 '21

This guy is my new hero

2

u/Shorevolker8 Dec 07 '21

Reminds me of an art teacher at my old school who ran around with a bandaged head for a few weeks because he forgot his head was still outside while closing his car door...

2

u/davidiseye Dec 07 '21

I’d have climbed in my window vs. in the back in shame. Course he should have opened the doors to tie it. Then shut doors innit

2

u/Heliwomper Dec 07 '21

I hate bmw (and other auto makers) for these stupid flush roof rails

2

u/JUSTICE3113 Dec 07 '21

😂😂😂

2

u/Bludgeonation Dec 07 '21

I would have went through the back. Why redo that whole thing?

2

u/MimiMyMy Dec 07 '21

I did this once way back when I was first adulting and bought a big tree for my new home. I just crawled through my window as the whole parking lot full of people watched.

2

u/SadPharmacist Dec 07 '21

All I can think about are the scratches on the paint sigh..

u/spmaniac Dec 07 '21
