I was trying to record this potential scammer and he actually glitched me in trade. Please be extremely careful everyone. DO NOT TRADE ANYONE UNTIL THIS IS FIXED! J-Mod reply in comments

To clarify our current stance on this - all mentions of this "exploit" that have been brought to our attention have been unsubstantiated, and in each case the player was rushing to get through the trade as quickly as possible. In this particular case, the footage in the video does not match any data we have logged, indicating that the video may have been recorded on an unofficial Old School RuneScape server. We do not believe there to be a trade exploit at this time. We'd like to be clear: each report has been thoroughly investigated by multiple teams, and should any further evidence be provided to us we'll investigate further.

Whats your official stance on rwt bots , green dragon bots , goldfarmers , gambling bots. You probably dont have any logs on those either am i right?

-6

u/Connypedia Oct 21 '21

And playerauctions and RPG stash selling gold and accounts in the number of thousands a year

u/Hes-in-my-clan Oct 21 '21

Bruh tbh osrs would die without bots. It’s sad but true Jagex knows it and won’t fix the bot problem because of it, it would literally kill the game in less than a year

i honestly think its hard to believe that if you cant track Rendy botting to 200m xp thieving in 30 mins and ban him then you cant track this matter, i hope this is fake otherwise economy would explode easily

Checking trade logs compared to automatically detecting scripts, hmmm.. yeah both seem as difficult to me. Great comment.

u/chrisbrehs Oct 21 '21

the problem with this is they aren't trading logs, they are trading tbows and gp

Lmfao best pun of the month

4

u/CortexAlpha Oct 21 '21

As long as the logs are safe they can take my useless PVM items.

u/henkdevries007 Oct 21 '21

I can barely edit videos but even I can edit a video to show this kind of 'exploit'.

u/Regular_Chap 2277 Oct 21 '21

I mean we can see the username of the person being traded?

All they have to do here is go check his trade logs.

21

u/Velheka Oct 21 '21

Tbf tracking potential bot activity is probably a lot harder and a very different task to just checking trade logs

You can't expect the reddit majority to have nuanced takes on these kidns of things. Plus if you read his sentence literally he's saying the exact opposite of what I think he means to say

Which doesn't mean that he's lying...

It's distinctly possible for you to have clicked through the trade too quickly, and this "exploit" doesn't exist at all.

While at the same time the person who scammed you remains unbanned. These are separate things.

I'm not defending scammers going unbanned. I was just explaining that it doesn't make him a liar, nor does it prove this exploit exists. (Which it clearly doesn't).

Fresh account with no other posts.

Maybe you're a troll account with no credibility? 🤔

Weird you don't have any comments except for the ones in this thread then. Almost like you just bought an account that got itself some updoots by reposting memes or whatever then deleted them, yknow like it always is when you buy accounts. But I'm sure you're just very security conscious and actually just delete your own comments regularly - except the ones in this thread because you forgot ¯\(ツ)

Hi, any chance you can manually review the false ban on my account? Thank you!

u/Kerdul Oct 21 '21

I also want to point out that the in game timer had been cropped out of the recording which means there could have been a jump cut

-5

u/Icy_Zach Oct 21 '21

There is deffinetly a jump cut if you look at the top left on the map the yellow dot jumps

1

u/Ulthus Oct 21 '21

I think you mean top right, also I don't see any jumps in the minimap

1

u/Icy_Zach Oct 21 '21

I was meaning the top left of the mini map ver at the tower but you are probably correct it may just be the dot how it interacts with entering and leaving

Yeah this seems impossible to me. I’m the last 20 years this hasn’t been a thing. Notice how he doesn’t left click on the item in the trade?

Idk what the purpose of the post is. But it seems fake

1

u/ohnowhatdididdoooo Oct 22 '21

The phat dupe worked almost exactly like this in classic. You would trade someone 1 coin and use a packet editor and after the trade that 1 coin would be turned into a phat

u/AskYouEverything Bea5 Oct 21 '21

I’m the last 20 years this hasn’t been a thing

I mean, it has. This exact bug existed pre eoc

Obviously the vid is a hoax though

0

u/Toke13 Oct 21 '21

"This exact bug".. but there is no bug here.

2

u/AskYouEverything Bea5 Oct 21 '21

What is described by these hoax threads used to be possible in RuneScape. Hope this helps

u/BC35dk Oct 21 '21

The purpose could be either for brief internet fame or to convince Jagex they found a glitch and were hacked to get some kind of compensation.

22

u/jcready92 Oct 21 '21

The purpose is all the karma and awards it got lol. Some people would cheat on tests and be proud to put it on their fridges lmao.

32

u/PFhelpmePlan Oct 20 '21

and in each case the player was rushing to get through the trade as quickly as possible

Lol. I got downvoted for suggesting this on the case of the guy losing 70mil in a tbow trade the other day. How the turn tables.

3

u/lumbymcgumby Oct 21 '21

That's how it usually goes when you're on the information super highway hahaha

19

u/ScrubDeezNuts Oct 20 '21

The only exception to this I can think of (I’m a developer, so I know it’s possible) is that your records themselves could have been bugged to appear as if the trade was successful or if it even happened at all.

That though, is most certainly unlikely.

5

u/strghst Oct 20 '21

Not necessarily. If they only log successful trades, it could be the case that the trade went through, but was logged for different users if it's manipulated through action priority queue. Or an exception is thrown that is not recorded and consequently, the logging part is never executed. We'd need to see the source for action queue, action priority and trade mechanic execution.

4

u/AskYouEverything Bea5 Oct 21 '21

action priority queue

Ah of course, action priority queue

4

u/ScrubDeezNuts Oct 20 '21

Yes, my first thought is that an exception caught breaks the logging process. Like what if the item technically existed, but for some reason the process expected something that didn’t exist, thus an exception thrown, and the logging process stopped.

My only other theory is that the logging process was stopped completely somehow because of some unknown factor, like maybe running out of print space?
